Toyota Camry has been a favorite worldwide for more than two decades. There's good reason behind this popularity. Since its launch in the market in 1987, Camry has always focused in its mission to be the perfect American family sedan. America's top selling passenger automobile, Toyota Camry for the 2009-year is back with eight interesting models in four different trims, the base, the top favorite LE, the SE and the most luxurious XLE. There is a Hybrid version also in the present line-up. The 2009 Toyota Camry represents the second year of the nameplate's sixth generation. After a redesign in 2007, there are not much functional changes by the manufacturer for the 2009 Camry sedan. The mid-sized sedan market will lose its lifeline, if the Camry is not taken into consideration.

Body Styles

The Base Camry comes with 16-inch steel wheels, air-conditioning, and a six-speaker CD audio system, along with an auxiliary input jack. The other standard exterior features include a tilt and telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, full power accessories and a 60/40-split-folding rear seat. Apart from these features, the Camry LE has a key-less entry and an eight-way power driver seat. The Camry SE models have a sport-tuned suspension, 17-inch alloy wheels, and special interior and exterior styling details. The luxurious XLE come with a 440-watt JBL sound system with an in-dash CD changer, Bluetooth connectivity, an automatic dual-zone climate control system with a high-tech air filter, reclining rear seats, and leather seating. Some of the important optional features include a navigation system and heated seats.

Interior Look

For the base and LE Camry models, the design of the comfortable interior cabin is to some extent function-driven. The oversized controls are arranged neatly on the dashboard, while the comfortable seats both in the rear and the front row are wide. There are many optional interior features available for one to consider, whenever one wants to update the look and feel of the interior cabin. The seat fabric is durable and does a fine job of camouflaging the dirt and dust. The stylish ice-blue back lighting for the audio and climate controls gives a new life to the interior segment. The Camry SE and XLE models are given totally different treatments to make a new mark in the mid-sized segment. The most noteworthy feature is the soft cloth upholstery that gives a luxurious feeling. Moreover, the rear passenger seat in all XLE models comes with detachable seat backs. The cargo capacity is 15 cubic feet in the base and LE models while in the SE and XLE models the capacity is 14.5 cubic feet.

Under the Hood

The standard engine on all the Camry models is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that delivers 158 horsepower and 161 pound-feet of torque. The four-cylinder engine is certified with Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEV) in most countries. For the transmission one can choose from a five-speed manual and a five-speed automatic. The four-cylinder XLE is the only Camry model that comes with automatic transmission only. Fuel economy is 21 mpg in the city and 31 mpg highway. For those who want a faster Camry, there is a 3.5-liter V6 capable of 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic is standard on all V6 models. Fuel economy is rated at 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

Driving Impressions

The base four-cylinder engine gives a smooth ride and anyone who drives it will be impressed with it on the very first drive. And for those, who are looking for a more appealing ride, there is the smooth and vigorous V6, making the 2009 Camry Sedan as one of the fastest mid-sized sedans on the road. Camry's on-road performance is highlighted by a soft and quiet ride.

Safety

Safety is one such area that makes the Camry a favorite Sedan all over the world. Each and every model of the 2009 Camry line-up is launched in the market with a number of airbags, like front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and a driver knee airbag. Antilock brakes with brake assist are also standard, while the Stability control with the traction control is optional across the line. Camry has earned a perfect five star in all frontal- and side-impact categories, in the crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The 2009 Toyota Camry Sedan stands out from the crowded mid -sized Sedan market, when it comes to the major customer expectations. Right from acceleration, fuel economy, ride quality, smooth handling, quietness, interior controls, rear-seat room and cargo volume, there is nothing that people can complain about in the 2009 Camry line-up.
